Purchasing a Federal Duck Stamp is one of the easiest ways that anyone can participate in wildlife and habitat conservation. 98% of the purchase price goes directly to help acquire wetlands and wildlife habitat for inclusion in the National Wildlife Refuge System. This ensures there will be protected land for future generations of wildlife and humans alike.
The first duck stamp was drawn by Jay Norwood "Ding" Darling himself after President Franklin D. Roosevelt signed the Migratory Bird Hunting Stamp Act in 1934. Under this Duck Stamp Act, all waterfowl hunters 16 years of age and over must annually buy and carry a Migratory Bird Hunting and Conservation Stamp, or Federal Duck Stamp. Each year, artists from across the country compete for the honor of their artwork being chosen to be made into the next Federal Duck Stamp. Each duck stamp design is an original hand-drawn creation making the duck stamp a collectible work of art.
Having a current year duck stamp also grants the bearer free entrance into any national wildlife refuge. That includes free entry onto Wildlife Drive here at J.N. "Ding" Darling National Wildlife Refuge.
